We are pleased to introduce W44, the experimental online newsletter of Pulsion Psychoanalytic Institute. Named for our clinic’s location on West 44th Street—and for ICD-10-CM diagnostic code W44, which designates injury caused by a foreign body entering through a natural orifice (e.g., ingestion or insertion into the ear, nose, mouth, anus, urethra, or vagina)—the title signals the publication’s interest in what enters, unsettles, and provokes thought.

Rather than functioning as a conventional institutional newsletter, W44 operates as a hybrid platform—part journal, part bulletin, part cultural notebook. It combines original writing, interviews, experimental columns, and curated recommendations with announcements and documentation of events. The result is a publication that situates psychoanalysis not only within the clinic, but as a practice that extends into everyday culture. W44 makes psychoanalytic thinking public and playful, with a deliberate air of irreverence—in conversation with artists, writers, theorists, and the broader intellectual culture of New York.
